Originally from London, Andrew qualified from Oxford Brookes University with a First Class Honours degree and has recently completed his MSc in Physiotherapy from Sheffield Hallam University where he finished at the top of his cohort.
As well as consulting for Artisan Healthcare, Andrew continues to work in the NHS as both a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Extended Scope Practitioner (ESP). An ESP is a Physiotherapist working at a high level of expertise that have extended their practice and skills in a specialised clinical area, such as injection therapy or the requesting of diagnostic investigations, and are considered expert health professionals (ESPPN Constitution 2012).
Andrew’s specialist interest is in the management of upper limb conditions, especially complex shoulder presentations and regularly receives referrals via recommendation from local Orthopaedic surgeons. Andrew is a member of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) as well as a professional member of the European Society of Shoulder and Elbow Rehabilitation (EUSSER).
Whilst Andrew offers specialist assessment in all neuro-musculoskeletal complaints he is particularly skilled in the treatment of chronic pain problems, especially where pain has persisted and has not responded successfully to previous treatment. He has been trained in the use of Cognitive Functional Therapy from Professor Peter O’Sullivan and has vast experience in treating patients with Persistent Low Back Pain. Andrew is passionate about educating his patients and uses a variety of manual techniques and individualized exercise programmes to ensure effective rehabilitation.
As well as being an accomplished clinician, Andrew is an active researcher with ongoing studies investigating rehabilitation of Shoulder conditions in clinical practice. He has published research on both the shoulder and the assessment of movement dysfunctions, and has been previously invited to present his work at the Physiotherapy Research Society conference 2015, the Physiotherapy UK Congress 2015 and the Upper Limb Symposium 2013.
Andrew is an author for the prestigious Cochrane Bone, Joint and Muscle Trauma Research Group undertaking systematic reviews of published research to help guide clinical practice. Andrew was formally a Research Physiotherapist at the University of Warwick where he was part of the renowned Warwick Orthopaedics research group and whilst there taught and examined on the Postgraduate Medicine course training future doctors.
With a passion to share knowledge, Andrew is regularly invited to deliver workshops and external lectures to fellow clinicians in order to improve clinical practice and update clinicians on contemporary research.
